Pipeline Pre-commissioning

Thirran Energy providing a full range of pipeline pre-commissioning services to both onshore and offshore industries. The services offered by Thirran Energy are aimed at providing operators the ability to initiate, sustain and increase production. This can be achieved through a variety of methods of activities including improving efficiency of planned projects and by increasing the production and transportation capability of in-field hydrocarbon flow lines, process plant and export pipelines.

Pre-commissioning of a pipeline system refers to activities generally considered to include the preparation and integrity verification of pipeline structure upon completion of construction/installation and prior to commissioning. Pre-commissioning activity requires preparation of pipeline for filling with the final product. The activity normally commences with the pipeline flooding, cleaning, gauging and hydrostatic test to validate leaks and internal geometry conditions. Then the final stage ends with dewatering, drying and purging (inert Nitrogen blanket) prior to fit for introduction of product. Often client validates the integrity of the pipeline including welding joints through baseline inspection using Caliper and MFL.

Pipeline Decommissioning

Pipeline Pre-commissioning / Decommissioning is part of the life cycle of any onshore / offshore pipeline installation. Pipeline Pre-commissioning / Decommissioning is a complex multi-discipline process with an overall timescale, normally lasting several years, requiring the management of diverse departments and agencies, oil producing companies, third party contractors, local communities, and non-government organizations.

Decommissioning of a pipeline system refers to activities of multi-step processes that typically includes disconnecting the line from supply, removing the product, cleaning, inerting and then pipeline abandonment or environmental re-instatement. Thirran Energy can provide guidelines to clients / operators on the whole decommissioning process and recommend solutions for many of these key steps, from de-waxing, de-oiling of liquids and clean the pipeline, to line plugging or cementing services that facilitate line abandonment.

The very purpose of decommissioning the pipeline, is to eliminate product adherent to the pipeline internal wall such as waxes, sludge, ferrous particles, etc. before its decommissioned according with the national standards for the Oil & Gas industry. After decommissioning the pipeline, clients / operators must ensure that the retired line is safe and in full compliance with regulatory and industry requirements.
