Pipeline Pigs
BI-DIRECTIONAL PIG (BiDi)
Bi-Directional Pigs (BiDi) are used for condensate removal, pipeline cleaning, product batching, dewatering, flooding, gauging and removal of debris from the pipeline. The Bi-Directional Pigs can also be configured specifically for wax removal operations and be used for the displacement of water or air during hydrostatic testing of a pipeline.
Our range of bi-directional pigs are available in sizes from 2” up to 60” with a variety of body constructions available, allowing the tools to pass 1.5D radius bends and negotiate full bore branches. Extra discs can be added if the scraper is to be used over long distances (>150km) or the pipeline conditions are particularly arduous.
BRUSH PIG
Brush pigs are designed to remove debris and deposits from the pipeline. There are a variety of brush materials which offer excellent cleaning properties to suit all pipeline materials and by-pass ports allow removed debris to be flushed clear of discs and brushes.
Bi-Directional Brush Pigs can also be configured specifically for wax, sand and black powder removal operations. The brush pigs are available in sizes from 2″ to 60″ with a variety of configurations.
GAUGING PIG
Gauging pigs are used to identify whether there are any items protruding into the pipe as well as to check for ovality in the line. When combined with an OEL SMART GRID® system, the approximate position of the defect in the pipeline can be established, resulting in significant cost savings. It is also sometimes referred as Smart Gauging Pig.
The gauge plates can be solid or segmented, and extra sealing and guide discs can be added if the pig is to be used over long distance (150km) or the pipeline conditions are particularly arduous.
JET HEAD PIG
Jetting Head Pigs are designed for use in pipelines where large amounts of debris and deposits may be present. The range of jetting head pigs offer excellent cleaning qualities and can be used for de-waxing and sand removal. It is available from size 6″ through to 60″, the standard model is supplied as a multi bolt design with six polyurethane discs; two support/guide discs, four sealing discs and jetting head assembly.
The pig performs as any utility pig does, until it encounters a restriction. This causes the differential pressure across the pig to increase and liquid is forced out through the adjustable nozzles, flushing the debris away. The pig then continues in the normal fashion. A pressure relief valve can be fitted to regulate the jetting flow if requited.
SOLID CAST PIG
The solid cast polyurethane pigs offer the flexibility of foam pigs, coupled with the rugged performance which is normally associated with mandrel pigs and are ideal for batching products over short distances. The solid cast pig is used to remove debris and designed to be disposable.
Solid cast pigs are lightweight and are available in sizes from 2″ to 12″. They are easy to launch and clean, and are capable of negotiating 1D bends and accommodating pipeline restrictions of up to 20%. The pigs can also be designed to fit a tracking device and magnets to remove ferrous debris from the inside of the pipeline.
HIGH FRICTION PIGS
High Friction / High Sealing Pigs are used to temporarily isolate a pipeline to allow for modification, maintenance or repair operations to be undertaken, resulting in reduced downtime and costs. The pigs are a simple and reliable tool, which can be used on pipelines from 1″ to 56″.
The use of high friction piggable tools as the isolation technique results in a reduced production outage with lower construction costs when compared to a full pipeline decommissioning / decommissioning. The standard design is supplied with ten polyurethane high interference sealing discs.
FOAM PIG
Foam pigs are extremely functional pigs designed to be used for pipeline cleaning, scraping or drying. A Foam Pig with polyurethane coating can be used for dewatering a short pipeline. Foam pigs are available in high, medium and low density specifications and the nature of the application will determine which density is selected.
The options for foam pigs include; non-ferrous brush, stainless steel wire brush, single spiral coated, gauging facility, high strength magnets for tracking facilities, by-pass facility, polyurethane scraper blades, extra long – for extended sealing applications or extra short – for ball valve or launching and receiving facilities.
CUP PIGS
Cup Pigs are designed for condensate removal, pipeline cleaning, product batching, as well as the removal of debris from the pipeline. Cup pigs are specially suitable when encountering pipe ovality and varying pipeline internal diameter. The range is comprehensive from 2″ through to 56″ with 2, 3 or 4 cup models and a variety of body constructions available. The Cup Pig is used in pipelines with low flow rates.
These pigs are especially suitable when encountering pipe ovality and varying pipe wall thickness. Designed for cleaning, batching and gauging, the conical cup pigs allow maximum flexibility while maintaining a positive seal. The Cup Pigs also can house transmitter and magnets for debris collecting.
SPHERE PIGS
The pipeline inflatable spheres are specially compounded for optimum resiliency, wear and long life. Spheres are used for liquid displacement, liquid product separation, signal actuating device, two-phase flow, hydrotesting testing and liquid removal in gas lines. The spheres will pass through short bends, properly designed tees and fully-opening conduit type valves. They will pass through out-of-round pipe, will wear evenly and can be wear-compensated by adjusting the diameter by inflating.
During the production of the spheres, each moulded hemisphere is subjected to an intensive physical inspection. Following on from the assembly and post-curing, every sphere is inflated to a specific increased diameter for 24 hours, this is to ensure each sphere will fulfil the exact demands of the task if is designed for.
SMART GAUGE PIG
When gauging pipelines to a subsea receiver, it can be costly to verify the condition of the guage plate prior to the hydrotest. The Smart gauge system enables the ROV or diver to determine whether the gauge plate is in a PASS or FAIL condition and communicates the time of the first event in the case of FAIL condition.
Smart gauge is simple to add to routine pigs and can save unnecessary vessel work as it evidences the condition of the pipeline without the need to recover the subsea receiving head. Identifying the location of a defect in a pipeline can be achieved by utilising OEL’s high-tech GRID® system. e GRID® system integrates the Smart Gauging System con guration with the additional functionality of enabling the transmission and logging of the time of an event.
