Chemical Cleaning Services

Chemical cleaning covers a wide range of services from new construction to ongoing maintenance activities. Chemical cleaning is a method to derive surfaces and walls of equipment, pipelines, vessels, kettles and heat exchangers of unwanted contaminants. Chemical cleaning also means the purification, conditioning, treatment or disinfection of water.

New construction facilities often undergo cleaning process prior to start-up. This is critical to flush out foreign materials such as welding rods, hard scales and etc. that may clog the piping systems or even damage the equipment such as pumps during the commissioning and start-up phase. The is due to the piping and vessels may contain variety of debris, scale, oxides, and oil that must be removed to ensure plant efficiency and equipment effectiveness. It also eliminates unnecessary equipment downtime, delays and maintenance costs.

To continue to operate at peak efficiency, process systems, vessels, and pipelines must be kept as clean as possible. Some of the normal by-products of operating processes create deposits ranging from scales to sludge, precipitates, and even metal deposits. These types of build-up foul the vessels and piping and can significantly reduce system efficiency, eventually causing plugging and failure of the unit.

Chemical Pipeline Cleaning

TEN provides mechanical and chemical cleaning of pipelines with different kinds of pigs, pipeline gauging, development of specific pigging programs for difficult pipelines, use of specially designed water or oil soluble cleaning agents.

Chemical cleaning dramatically removes the soft and hard wax deposits from the internal pipeline surface to maintain/restore/enhance their flow capacity, thus increases the efficiency of pipeline throughput. Chemical cleaning is an inevitable procedure for a pipeline conversion from crude oil to refined oil product or gas transportation. It removes crude oil deposits from the pipeline that could contaminate a new product (mainly sulphur compounds).

Chemical cleaning of pipelines transporting hydrocarbon liquids is the most effective, quick, safe and environmentally responsible pipeline cleaning solution that makes many pipeline maintenance, conversion, remedial repair, revalidation, decommissioning or abandonment projects feasible and dramatically reduces the needed shut-down time.

Chemical cleaning on newly constructed pipeline

Pre-Operational Chemical Cleaning

Pre-operational cleaning involves the chemical cleaning of a new plant before its first commissioning. Pre-Operational Chemical Cleaning performed to remove any foreign material remaining from the construction / fabrication activities on the pipe system. Major considerations in the pre-operational phase include mill scale, corrosion products, weld scale, oil, grease, sand, dirt, temporary protective coatings, and other construction debris (welding rods). Depending on the surface condition and start-up specifications, the selection of the appropriate pre-operational cleaning procedure depends on various individual factors.

Chemical cleaning on crude pipeline

Pre-Operational Chemical Cleaning

To remove operational deposits that have accumulated during normal operation of the unit since the last cleaning. Post-Operational Chemical Cleaning performed for a number of reasons, including reduced heat transfer, reduced flow, safety (e.g., H2S, pyrophoric iron, LELs, ammonia, etc.), reduced surface area (e.g., catalyst), access to full inspection (ILI), and more.

For Boiler, the objective is to remove deposits from the inside of boiler tubes which improves the boiler heat rate, reduces tube failures and improves the stability of boiler chemistry.

For pipeline or piping system, post-operational chemical cleaning will help to remove scale deposits that can lead to localized corrosion, thus improves the product throughput. The type and frequency of post-operational cleaning varies with system design, operating requirements, and history of operation and fluid/water treatment.

After Chemical Cleaning stage, passivation is a part of the post-chemical cleaning process. Passivation stage, protects the system internal surfaces by making it relatively inert to reactions associated with corrosion which is attributed to the formation of a very thin protective iron oxide layer.

Chemical Cleaning on Storage Tanks or Tank Farms

Thirran Energy (TEN) offers an evolutionary, safe and reliable tank cleaning (desludging), neutralization, sludge oil recovery and integrity testing via a portfolio of services. We almost eliminate the needs for crew member to enter the tank for cleaning purposes. Our innovative processes also allows zero hazardous waste emitted, thus up to 98% of clients’ oil is recovered.

Though the main area of expertise is desludging and cleaning of heavy product tanks such as crude oil, paraffin and/or aspheltene, TEN also covers the treatment of the sluge oil recovery, waste management, mechanical works, pipeline cleaning and piping integrity inspection (LRUT). Thus our primary objective is not only to clean client’s tank, but to lower their waste disposal costs and minimize tank’s downtime.

In a partnership approach with our Principal and client, we are able to develop a complete tank cleaning solution which eliminates man-entry during cleaning operations, minimizes downtime, saves costs, increases product recovery and improves health and safety performance. Our Principal is ISO 9001 accredited and certified with several patented chemical products. Some of the global customers we have served such as Shell, ExxonMobil, BP, TOTAL and many others.

Chemical Cleaning on Heat exchangers

“Thirran Energy (TEN) offers an evolutionary, safe and reliable tank cleaning (desludging), Pulling a heat exchanger for cleaning is costly, time consuming and requires trained personnel, however TEN able to offer much more efficient and cost effective solutions. TEN able to customized solutions and offer a simplified processes to clean the heat exchangers without pulling the equipment (bundle), thus eliminates delay, additional works (no requirement for hydroblasting or re-fabricating of bundles) and expense. Our method also eliminates the need to keep Heat Exchanger equipment out of service for weeks. No hydroblasting. No re-fabricating of bundles.

During plant turnover / shutdown projects, time is critical to bring up the equipment to online as soonest possible. So, when performing cleaning on heat exchangers, the needs to separating the bundle from the shell or having to replace numerous parts for a week-long replacement process is no longer a requirement. TEN in collaboration with Principal offers chemical heat exchanger cleaning method that lets client / contractors to clean heat exchangers without pulling them, thus keeping the equipment in premium order while improving client’s schedule, safety, and bottom line.

The process: after client isolate the selected units, TEN shall circulate a blend of cutter stock and cleaning chemicals to initiate the cleaning process and monitors it until completion. A “shock” treatment using a selected asphaltene anti-foulant chemical product would be injected over a 24-hour period at a dose rate of 1000 ppm that substantially will reduce
equipment fouling and extend production run times while minimizing maintenance costs.
